Twine Privacy Policy
Sasikanth Miriyampalli built this app as a FREEMIUM app and it is intended for use as is. Source code can be found here.
Data Collection
Whenever you use the app, we may report error/crash logs that help us improve the app and resolve issues. We use Bugsnag to collect this information. Crash reporting is only included in the Play Store build of the app — the FOSS build does not include any crash reporting.
Local Data Storage
By default, all of your app data — subscribed feeds, articles, read/unread status, bookmarks, blocked words, and feed groups — is stored only on your device. I, as the developer, do not have access to this data.
Optional Cloud Sync
Twine supports optional, user-initiated sync to a service of your choosing. Sync is off by default and only activates if you connect an account. Supported providers:
- Google Drive — data is stored in an app-scoped hidden folder in your Google Drive, accessible only to Twine.
- Dropbox
- FreshRSS (self-hosted, via the Google Reader API) — you provide your own server URL and credentials.
- Miniflux (self-hosted) — you provide your own server URL and credentials.
When sync is enabled, your feeds, articles, read state, bookmarks, blocked words, and groups are transmitted to and stored by the provider you chose. This data is subject to that provider's own privacy policy and terms. I do not operate any Twine-run server and never receive a copy of this data.
Note: because Twine allows connecting to self-hosted FreshRSS/Miniflux servers, the app permits unencrypted (HTTP) network connections in addition to HTTPS, to support servers on local/private networks. Data sent to a server over plain HTTP is not encrypted in transit.
Purchases
Premium features (such as cloud sync) are managed through in-app purchases processed via RevenueCat. RevenueCat receives purchase and subscription-entitlement identifiers necessary to validate your purchase; it does not receive your feed or reading data. See RevenueCat's privacy policy for details.
Network Requests to Third-Party Sites
To provide core functionality, the app makes network requests to sites and services outside of Twine's control:
- Feed fetching — the app connects directly to the RSS/Atom/JSON feed URLs you subscribe to.
- Full article fetching (reader mode) — when you open an article in reader view, the app fetches the original page directly from the source website.
- Favicon fetching — the app fetches favicon/site icons directly from each feed's origin website.
These requests go directly from your device to the relevant website; I do not proxy, log, or have visibility into them.
Permissions
- Notifications (Android) — used to alert you about new articles, if enabled.
- Background refresh (Android, iOS, desktop) — used to periodically refresh feeds and sync (if enabled) in the background.
The app does not request access to your camera, microphone, contacts, or location.
